Chapter 8: Amoeba Issue

And then, there’s the amoeba issue.

How do the cognitive abilities of the human mind compare to what’s possible?

Is the human mind as close to what’s possible as is the ape mind to the human mind?

Are we as close to what’s possible as is a dog to us, a chicken to us, a turtle to us, a worm to us, an amoeba to us?

I ask these questions because nothing seems to really make sense, and because so far, scientific theory has a tendency to be scrapped after 50 years or so.

Are we really close to understanding reality, and being able to dismiss G-d?

Can we really put much faith in the current interpretations of science – or, are we no closer to understanding reality than is the worm (say) to understanding calculus?

How can we tell? (Anthropism)
