Part 1, Chapter 2: Out of Left Field

2.1. Before I go any further, I should probably try to assure any skeptics still reading (lest I lose them forever) that I fully understand how foolish Christianity can seem to be…
2.1.1. In order to embrace Christianity, one must accept a whole host of doubtful assumptions.
2.1.1.1. There really is such a thing as G-d.
2.1.1.2. The supernatural, and in particular prophecy, is real.
2.1.1.3. The Old Testament (OT, Hebrew Bible, Tanakh) is prophetic,
2.1.1.4. The OT predicts a Messiah (not just a Messianic age).
2.1.1.5. G-d would “come to us” in the flesh.
2.1.1.6. Jesus is G-d.
2.1.1.7. He is also the son of G-d.
2.1.1.8. We are all “sinners.”
2.1.1.9. There is such a thing as Heaven.
2.1.1.10. The only way to Heaven is through “believing in” Jesus.
2.1.1.11. By believing in Jesus, he would pay for our sins.
2.1.1.12. There is such a thing as Hell.
2.1.1.13. Those of us who do not believe in Jesus will go to Hell.

2.1.2. And then,
2.1.2.1. Jesus clearly did not fulfill all the prophecies (For instance, what ever happened to world peace, and returning the Israelites to Israel?).
2.1.2.2. The Jesus concept seems much too complicated (Surely, the basic truth must be simple…).
2.1.2.3. To “believe,” or to “believe in,” something, is not voluntary -- so how could the perfect and ultimate Judge (G-d and/or Jesus) reward us for believing all these things?
2.1.2.4. What about Taoism and Buddhism?

2.1.3. And then of course, there are the Christians themselves.
2.1.3.1. They make all those non-sensical statements (such as, “I took Jesus as my Lord and Savior”).
2.1.3.2. They can be very pushy, smug and generally obnoxious;
2.1.3.3. They tend to be significantly less well educated than do non-Christians; and finally,
2.1.3.4. They tend to be poorly thought of by those better educated people…

2.1.4. Need I say more? (Not So Smart)
