Part 1, Chapter 3: Not So Smart

3.1. But then, a while back, I began to notice things (facts and logic) that seemed to actually support the general Jesus concept, and I began to suspect that the concept was not nearly so foolish as it first appeared. I began to think that there is more here than meets the casual -- albeit rational -- eye.

3.2. And at this point, it seems to me that there are numerous credible and serious facts and ideas supportive of the Jesus concept that we of the intelligentsia simply missed that first time around. I just think that most of us were turned off, and away, early on and never did the mental gymnastics necessary to uncover the real intellectual support for the Jesus hypothesis. Superficially, it all seemed too foolish -- and generally speaking, we were just not as smart as we thought we were… (Most well educated and analytically minded people place far too much faith in their own reasoning. (Clearly, you can see that I’m not one of those people – or at least, not anymore! ))

3.3. I’m also thinking that our educational system predisposes the intelligentsia to an analytic perspective -- in contrast to a holistic perspective -- and consequently, our general attitude towards religion takes on a decidedly negative spin. More about that later. (What Now?)
